The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an English Language proficiency test designed for non –native students who wants to study in abroad where English is the medium of instruction. IELTS is controlled by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), IDP and British Council. It is acceptable in the universities of UK, New Zealand, Canada and Australia.
The Academic Writing and Reading tests assess whether an applicant is ready to study in the medium of English for undergraduate or postgraduate level. Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses is given to the students based on the results of IELTS Test
The General Training Reading and Writing tests are designed to test the applicant’s basic endurance skills in a broad social and educational context. General Training is acceptable for candidates who are going to English-Speaking countries to acknowledge work experience or for immigration purposes to Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
IELTS Speaking is a one-to-one interaction between an examiner and candidate. Speaking test is of 10 to 14 minutes. In this test, Candidate faces interview task, speaking, short questions on a familiar topic and a discussion.
IELTS listening has four modules, each with 10 questions. This test is of 30 minutes and 10 minutes are given extra for writing answers to the answer sheet. The candidates are tested on monologues and conversations basis.
Reading task consists of 3 passages with 40 questions. The test is of 60 minutes in which students are tested on reading passages with tasks, text from descriptive and factual to discursive and analytical, text from books, journals, diagrams, graph and newspapers.
It consists of 2 tasks (Writing Task 1 and Writing Task 2) and candidates must answer both these tasks. The test is of 60 minutes, which comprises of writing task of 150 words, charts, describing tables, graphs, diagrams and a short essay of 250 words.
